Ellon Engineering Company Gets The French Connection

For Arnaud Girin, a French mechanical engineering student at the Robert Gordon University, a placement within a small, but international, engineering company is proving to be the perfect place to build on his university knowledge.

Arnaud, 25, is currently a part-time trainee design engineer for Ellon-based LFH Engineering Ltd, specialists in the design and manufacturing of pumps. During the last year, he has been able to create and manage 3D models of pumps and components using CAD software.

He commented: "Working at LFH Engineering alongside my studies is a fantastic opportunity – I get to work in a positive and motivational environment whilst being challenged each and every day that I work. The beauty of a small, close-knit, business like LFH is that you know all of your colleagues well and can work closely with them to deliver great results for clients. The management team also encourages us to contribute to the decision making process, altering and improving the way we do things, which increases motivational levels and subsequently productivity."

Les Hill, managing director at LFH Engineering, has not looked back since welcoming Arnaud through the doors, who will be taking on his Masters Degree later this year. He said: "Arnaud brings enthusiasm and a friendly approach to all tasks and new projects that he is involved with. He is able to put what he learns at university into good practice within our workplace and vice versa.

"As we export some 70% of our pump products, having a mix of nationalities and cultures in the workplace compliments our business. In fact, we have already benefited from Arnaud's bilingual skills during recent discussions with a French client which gives us an edge over other businesses."

Les plans to employ Arnaud full-time following the completion of his studies which means he will be looking to add further placement students to the 32-strong team. He added: "We very much see the worth in investing in new talent, with other members of staff completing a HND in Engineering and apprentices focusing on their certificates.

"Arnaud is an asset to us and his eye for detail and technological know-how gives us great faith in the talent coming through from university level. We are all looking forward to seeing him develop even further in the coming months, and hopefully years."
