ISO Accreditation Awarded To Newly Formed North-East Engineering Company

A recently formed North-east manufacturing company has achieved accreditation from one of the country’s most widely recognised and respected quality management standards bodies.

Ellon-based LFH Engineering, which specialises in the manufacture of marine diesel engine coolant pumps, has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 accreditation from the British Standards Institution (BSI) a mere twelve weeks after the company’s start up & transfer to Ellon.

LFH Engineering was established by local businessman, Les Hill, in April following his purchase of the pump manufacturing division of Peterhead-based Terex Powertrain Ltd, a subsidiary of US-based global manufacturing firm, Terex Corporation.

He believes that the company securing ISO 9001:2008 accreditation will help enable it to become a preferred supplier within the international marketplace for both new and existing purchasers of LFH pumps and associated products.

All aspects of the new business were examined as part of the rigorous accreditation process including the design, development, manufacture and testing of pumps and their associated components. Other areas under analysis included customer satisfaction, employee welfare and development, marketing, and crucially the tools with which to evaluate risk.

The achievement of ISO 9001:2008 accreditation follows on from the company’s recent securing of Bureau Veritas’ in-house certification for specified pumps which enables LFH to offer its customers a prompt and economic testing service as and when required.

Managing Director, Mr Hill, took all 18 staff members who were employed within the pump manufacturing division with him to LFH Engineering as part of the buy-out deal, and has now made a number of additional recruitments including senior level appointments. Projections for the company’s first year sales are in the region of £2.5 million.

“Securing this accreditation marks the next crucial stage in LFH’s development” commented Mr Hill. “Adherence to a structured quality management system gives the company a solid foundation from which it can continually improve its quality, stability and reputation.

“Looking to the near future, the BSI accreditation provides the foundation for us to work towards the associated ISO 14001 environmental and safety standards, which will further enhance the company’s reputation in the market place and amongst its blue chip customer base.”
